The floor
Bought once, built to outlast us
Five years ago this floor was stripped to the slab and rebuilt around Sorinex. It is hand-built in South Carolina, it is what more than thirty professional teams train on, and it is the reason two sessions can run side by side without either one waiting.

One station
What a bay holds
Every bay is set up the same way, so a coach who moves between them is never hunting for a collar or a bench.
Apex uprights
Eleven gauge steel, cut and welded in Lexington.
Numbered holes
So a height is written into your programme, not guessed at.
Bench, stored in the bay
Nobody drags one across the floor mid-set.
Competition bar
Knurled and centre-marked. It does not bend on a heavy day.
Calibrated plates
Loaded in pairs. What the programme says is what is on the bar.
Room for two
A coach stands where they can see the lift, not where they fit.
The maker
Sorinex
Richard Sorin started building equipment in 1980 because nobody was making what he wanted to train on. The company is still family-owned and his son Bert runs it now.
Raw steel goes in one end of their factory in Lexington, South Carolina, and finished racks come out the other. It is cut, welded and finished on site, and almost nothing is outsourced. That is unusual now, and it is why a rack from them outlives the lease on the room it stands in.
The New England Patriots, the Golden State Warriors, the UFC and USA Hockey all train on it. So does this floor, in a studio small enough that you will never queue for a rack.
Why this and not the cheap version
Every station is Sorinex
- Hand-built in South Carolina
- Raw steel goes in one end of their Lexington factory and finished racks come out the other, cut and welded on site. Almost nothing is outsourced.
- Family-owned since 1980
- Richard Sorin started building his own equipment because nobody was making what he wanted to train on. His son Bert runs the company now.
- In thirty-plus pro weight rooms
- The New England Patriots, the Golden State Warriors, the UFC and USA Hockey all train on it. So does this floor.
- Apex racks, laid out in pairs
- The rigs were chosen so a coach and a client own a station outright. Two sessions run side by side and neither one waits on the other.
Why it is this floor and not a bigger one
“It was never about having ten or twenty thousand square feet. It was about using every square inch of this one.”
What is in the room
The whole list
Confirmed on the floor. If something is missing from this list it is because nobody has walked the room with a clipboard yet, not because it is not there.
Racks and platforms
- Sorinex Apex uprights, laid out in pairs
- Benches stored in the bay
- Competition bars and calibrated plates
Free weights
- Dumbbells the full length of the rack
- Fixed barbells
- Specialty bars
Conditioning
- A turf lane for sled and carry work
- Cardio on the front of the floor
Recovery
- Red light sauna
- Full-service locker rooms and towel service
- A doctor of physical therapy on site
The old site also listed battle ropes, kettlebells, TRX straps, MMA equipment and Bulgarian bags. All of that predates the rebuild, so it is left off until somebody confirms it is still on the floor.
The transformation begins now
